Child & youth Therapy

Support for Young Minds, Space to Grow

KD Counselling provides compassionate therapy for youth and teens (13+), offering a safe space to process emotions, build resilience, and develop the skills they need to thrive.

At KD Counseling, we believe every young person deserves to feel seen, heard, and understood. Our child and youth therapy services are tailored to the developmental needs of each individual, using age-appropriate, evidence-informed approaches to support young people facing anxiety, life transitions, identity questions, school-related stress, and more. We collaborate with parents and caregivers where appropriate, ensuring that the young person remains at the centre of the process. Our goal is to equip children and teens with practical tools and a stronger sense of self so they can navigate life’s challenges with confidence and connection.

COMMON INQUIRIES ANSWERED

Frequently Asked Questions

Some signs that therapy may be helpful include changes in behaviour, mood, or sleep; withdrawal from friends or activities; declining school performance; expressions of worry, sadness, or anger that seem difficult to manage; or significant life changes such as a family transition, loss, or move. If you’re unsure, a free consultation is a great first step.

We work with children and youth ranging from teens through to late adolescence (approximately ages 13–17). Each young person’s therapy is tailored to their developmental stage, communication style, and individual needs.

Confidentiality applies to young clients as well, with some important nuances. We work collaboratively with parents and caregivers to ensure alignment around the young person’s wellbeing, while also honouring the teen’s need for a private and trusting space. The limits of confidentiality and how information is shared will be discussed openly at the start of treatment.

It depends on the young person’s age and what is clinically appropriate. For younger adolescents, we may invite caregivers into portions of sessions or conduct periodic check-ins. For older teens, sessions are typically individual, with caregiver involvement on an as-needed basis.

This is very common. Feeling resistant or skeptical about therapy is normal for teens. We recommend having an open, non-pressuring conversation about what support might look like, and allowing them some choice in the process. A free consultation, even just a casual first meeting can go a long way in reducing that initial resistance.

We support young people navigating anxiety, school stress, peer relationship challenges, identity and self-esteem questions, family changes (divorce, bereavement, new siblings), ADHD, and general emotional regulation difficulties. Each young person’s goals guide our work together.

Yes. As a racialized, queer, neurodivergent person, I understand some of the challenges that can come with navigating spaces where you may not feel fully seen or understood.

While I welcome clients from all backgrounds, I am particularly passionate about supporting individuals exploring questions related to identity, belonging, authenticity, masking, code-switching, relationships, and self-acceptance.
