Frequently Asked Questions

Therapy at KD Counselling is collaborative, relational, and tailored to you. Rather than fitting you into a predetermined framework, we’ll work together to understand your unique experiences, identities, relationships, and goals. Sessions are a space for reflection, curiosity, growth, and sometimes even humour, as we explore what is helping you move forward and what may be keeping you stuck.

I work with teens and adults experiencing a range of concerns, including:

  • Stress, anxiety, and burnout
  • Perfectionism and self-criticism
  • Low confidence and imposter feelings
  • Difficulty setting boundaries
  • Relationship challenges
  • Life and career transitions
  • Workplace stress and burnout
  • Career uncertainty and decision-making
  • Questions of identity, purpose, and meaning
  • Feeling stuck, lost, or disconnected from yourself

You don’t need to have a specific diagnosis or be in crisis to benefit from therapy.

My work is trauma-informed, client-centred, and integrative. I draw from several evidence-based approaches, including:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
  • Somatic approaches
  • Motivational approaches

Rather than following a one-size-fits-all model, I adapt my approach based on your goals, preferences, and needs.

Career counselling focuses on helping you navigate career decisions, workplace challenges, job searches, and professional development.

My approach combines career development strategies with therapeutic insight, helping you explore not only what you want to do, but also the values, beliefs, fears, and patterns that may be influencing your decisions.

A strong therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in successful therapy. I strive to create a space where you can show up authentically and without judgment.

My approach may be a good fit if you’re looking for a therapist who is relational, collaborative, trauma-informed, and attentive to the ways identity, culture, systems, and lived experiences shape your life. You can start by booking a free 30 min consultation so we can both determine if it’s a good fit.

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. We typically recommend a 90-minute session since we will explore what brings you to therapy, what you’re hoping to gain from the process, and any questions or concerns you may have. There is no pressure to share everything right away. We move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Individual psychotherapy sessions are 50 minutes and are offered both virtually and in person.

Career counselling sessions begin at 25 minutes and can be adjusted based on your needs.

Yes. As a racialized, queer, neurodivergent person, I understand some of the challenges that can come with navigating spaces where you may not feel fully seen or understood.

While I welcome clients from all backgrounds, I am particularly passionate about supporting individuals exploring questions related to identity, belonging, authenticity, masking, code-switching, relationships, and self-acceptance.

Currently, in-person psychotherapy sessions take place outdoors along the Humber River in Etobicoke. We meet at Old Mill Station and walk together along the river while talking.

Walk-and-talk therapy can offer a different experience from traditional office-based therapy, combining movement, nature, and conversation in a way that many clients find grounding and refreshing.

Virtual sessions are also available.

Individual psychotherapy sessions are $150 per 50-minute session.

Career counselling sessions start at $75 for 25 minutes.

A limited number of sliding-scale spots are available for low-income individuals, ranging from $50–$100 per session. Availability can be discussed during your consultation.

Please provide at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice may be subject to the full session fee.

Many extended health benefit plans provide coverage for psychotherapy services. I recommend contacting your insurance provider to confirm your specific coverage and eligibility for psychotherapy services.

At this time, I offer direct billing through Sun Life, ProviderConnect, and the Canadian Benefit Providers (CBP) network. If direct billing is not available through your provider, you will be responsible for payment at the time of your session.

Once your session has been completed and payment has been received, an official receipt will be automatically emailed to you. You can then submit this receipt to your insurance provider for reimbursement according to your plan’s coverage.

Yes. KD Counselling offers psychoeducational workshops focused on mental health, career development, and personal growth. Topics may include anxiety, perfectionism, burnout, career transitions, job-search strategies, and other areas relevant to the community.

Please check back regularly or contact me for information about upcoming workshops.
